Why Youth Stay in Church…

The Gospel Coalition recently had this article on their main blog:

Why Youth Stay in Church When They Grow Up by Jon Nielson

He offers three observations that are typically true of those 20-somethings who have stayed in church and consciously chosen to stay rooted in a congregation as a young adult:

1. They are converted.

2. They have been equipped, not entertained.

3. Their parents preached the gospel to them.

As he notes, this is not a magic formula for parents (it’s not even possible to accomplish #1 without God’s intervention). And the ultimate goal, we must remember, is not just “staying in church.” It’s maturity as disciples of Christ…But Nielson’s words are spot-on in this article and are in line with how we try to run the student ministries of CCC.
