A La Carte (12.12.13)

Check out this week’s articles….good stuff!

Lay Aside the Weight of Christmas Expectations: “That’s why we need to be aware of how much we are influenced by the American cultural holiday we call Christmas, because it is almost entirely a fantasy-fueled expectation factory.”

The Gospel-Centered Husband: “The opposite of a gospel-centered husband, I think, is a comfortable husband.”

Classes of elementary and high school kids from all over the world in their classrooms: Pictures of classrooms from around the world. Might be cool to show your kids what other cultures’ learning places look like.

On Football, Warrior Culture, and Manhood: “The mustache-wearing barista in Brooklyn who favors bespoke ties and plays no sports but faithfully leads his community group and witnesses to his coworkers is much manlier than our favorite BEAST athlete who doesn’t know Christ. The guy who doesn’t enjoy weightlifting but who spiritually shepherds his family is far closer to the pin than the dude who catches game-winning touchdowns but never cracks open the Scripture with his kids.”

Cutting Increasing Among Adolescents: For parents out there, I want you to have this on your radar screen. For teenagers, if you are struggling with this or know someone who is, please don’t stay quiet about it. There are many people who want to care for you and help you–not least of which is the One who allowed Himself to be bleed so that you could be loved and accepted by God.
